The AGM of The Glens of Antrim Historical Society took place on Friday 27th September in the Parish Centre, Cushendall, with some 80 members and guests attending.
In the opening business, the current Chair of the Society, Catriona Duncan, and the other members of the committee were all elected for a further year in office.
Reports from the Chair, the secretary and the treasurer referred to the various activities of the Society during the past year and showed that the Society was in a healthy financial state.
The elections were followed by an address by the speaker for the evening, Baroness Nuala O’Loan, who gave a most interesting talk about her early background and her varied involvement in the affairs of Northern Ireland over recent years.
The final item of the evening was the launch of Volume 51 of the Society’s annual journal, The Glynns, by the editor Donnell O’Loan.
This year’s Glynns includes 11 varied articles about the history and culture of the Glens and it was pleasing that seven of the authors of these articles were present at the meeting. Copies of The Glynns, price £15.00, are available at the following outlets: the Historical Society’s office in Mill Street, Cushendall, telephone 028 2177 1180; McListers’ newsagents in Ballycastle; Glenariffe Community Centre; Carnlough Community Office.
